Before going to college, Alison Reader wanted to see the world – sort of mix work with a long, long holiday away from Britain. She tells us about her experience:
“I wanted to go to Australia because I’d heard the lifestyle was so good. So I got a job in a pizza restaurant and saved up the money I’d need for the trip. A friend of mine wanted to travel, too, and I knew a couple of people in Sydney, so I had someone to go with and somewhere to stay, at least. We didn’t have any jobs organised before we arrived, because we’d been told it was really easy to pick up work.
“We worked in Sydney for three months then met up with another couple of friends from home who flew out to join us. The four of us then bought an old car and drove to Brisbane (north of Sydney) where we found jobs. I worked in a café for three weeks, doing shifts from 6 p.m. until 2 a.m. – three weeks was enough!
“After Brisbane, we headed up to Cairns and just relaxed for a couple of weeks. Then I went inland to work in the rainforest for three weeks, cleaning holiday cabins. Next, we all drove across the north of the country to Darwin – it was all holiday from then, we’d enough of work! We drove around the desert in the middle of Australia for a while but the scenery began to get boring. Lots of dust and the odd palm tree!
“Louise, my friend, decided to stay at the next place we stopped because she’d found a job. And I went off on my own. I got a lift from a woman who drove me to Adelaide and stayed there for a week. The four of us all got back together again in Sydney and travelled back to Britain via Thailand.
“I loved Australia but I don’t know whether I’d like to live there for good. The thing I really loved was the Australian way of life. They’ve got great weather and they take life much easier than the British.”

GUIA DE TRABAJO - KET (EGB 3-TM)

Prof. Fabian Tapia

You Never Know
By Raul Cordoba

In Catamarca, in a neighbourhood of the periphery, a man called Juan García lived alone. He didn’t have much money because he wasn’t well paid in his job, he worked as cleaner in a school.
One day while Juan was playing football with his friends, he started to feel bad, and decided to go to the hospital to see a doctor. As he was revised the doctor got surprised by the strange symptoms in Juan's whole body, the doctor indicated him some studies to be done, to find out what was happening to him.
Juan, very preoccupied, spent all his savings to pay the medical studies. The following day, he went to the laboratory to know the results of the examinations but the doctors told him that he had to return in one week to obtain a more complete report.
On the following week, the secretary of the laboratory called Juan to tell him they already had the final results of the examinations. At that moment he was feeling extremely bad. Immediately, Juan went to look for the results to the hospital. When he arrived in there, they sent him to speak to the doctor in chief. After having seen the results, the doctor remained surprised and warned Juan that he had to make a very complex treatment with the famous doctor Sebastian Parisi, who was the only one that could help him with his strange disease in the muscles, otherwise he would die.
Juan tried to get another job and he asked all his friends for money for the treatment but all his attempts were useless for he didn’t have the strength to work and his friends weren’t in a good economical situation. Without having another alternative, he decided to go out to steal and asked his friend Pablo to give him a weapon.
It was a calm night, Juan saw a mansion and he decided to steal there. When he entered he heard a noise, and a tall man appeared from behind with a piece of wood. Juan, very frightened, shot the man three times in the head. The man died and Juan took all the money from of the house, which was enough to pay the treatment.
The following morning, Juan went to see doctor Parisi, but his secretary told him that he was killed during the night when a thief shot him three times in the head. Juan fell on the floor with a deathlike expression in his face, and remembered the words from his father: "treat all people well, because you never know when you need them".

An Unforgettable trip
By Matias Mauvecin

This story is about a man called Roberto Garcia. He was a manager and he had a beautiful family, two sons, four daughters and a beautiful wife. One day Roberto’s boss called him and said that he needed him to travel to Salta because he was going to start a new business in that province.

The following week Roberto started the trip. Firstly, he arrived to Tucuman to visit his relatives. He stayed in Tucuman for three days. Then he continued travelling to Salta, but he had a problem on the way. He had a flat tyre and just in front of a river. Then he saw something strange, he saw a dead man floating in that river. Roberto realized that the man died recently because the body wasn’t rotten yet. Roberto started to look for some identification in the pocket but he only found a letter within a small plastic bag. It was a suicidal note in which he could read: “My name is Hector Rodriguez, I’m a lawyer and I decided to finish my life because I lost my job and I can’t feed my family. Ps: tell my wife and my daughter that I love them”. Immediately, Roberto called the police and the police arrived to the place in a half an hour with the reporters.

The police took the dead man and thanked Roberto for his help. Roberto changed the tyre and got back to his way to Salta. He lost many hours in the incident and he decided to sleep in a motel because it was getting dark and he was very tired. He had terrible nightmares and suddenly he was woken up by the phone of his room. He answered and a man with a strange voice introduced himself as Hector Rodriguez. He told Roberto that he didn’t commit suicide. He also explained that the Mexican mafia was chasing him because he was fighting and putting into jail dangerous drug dealers. So he managed to get out of that trouble by killing a homeless person and putting a fake letter in his pocket. He regretted of what he had done and decided to confess everything about the murder. After that the police arrested Hector. Finally, Roberto arrived to Salta with an unreliable story of his unforgettable trip.
